A Day In The Life Of My Fishtank

A few months ago a couple of my best algae eaters died on me :( Ever since, I have been dealing with this tank that gets out of control within a week! Every week when I clean the tank I swear that i'm going to go out and buy a couple new algae eaters, and in the end not doing so. I had gone out a while ago and gotten a few bottom feeders that were apparently supposed to solve all my problems, but they have not done anything except take over the local castle and wage war on my tetras. :( However, this week I actually did go get a few of the algae eaters and well....I guess we will see from here. Let me know if you have any tips or tricks on keeping your fish tank clean :)

I so sympathize! My fishtank is an ongoing source of frustration. I have found that using natural lighting has cut down on algae growth somewhat.

Oh gosh, we used to have a tank that had problems with algae. Our algae eaters got huge. I know Rick added stuff to keep it all in balance. When you go to the pet store or fish place, just ask and I'm sure they'll have something to get it under control.
I miss having an aquarium. We left ours at my ILs house when we moved from CA to MT. I've been wanting to get a new one.
I have a fish tank too, but I dont need to clean it for about 8 weeks - reason being, we have a small filter pump in it and no algae can build up with moving/flowing water - so thats taken care of the problem for us. Hope this helps, good luck!
yeah, I have a filtration system...maybe now it will work better with less algae getting into it. :)
You should not normally have an algae problem unless the tank is getting too much light either because it's too near a window or the fish tank light is kept on too long. You can scrape it off the glass with a razor blade very easily but if it's through out the water you have a bit of a problem. If everything is done properly, you should never have to clean the water out of an aquarium, just add water as it evaporates.
